This extensive refurbishment of a 1970’s era light industrial unit with an asbestos roof extended across all of the building's facilities and included offices, conference and training areas, bathrooms, toilets, kitchen areas, dining and relaxing areas, as well as the external garage area. The end result was a best in class education facility, incorporating avant-garde simulation suite.
OUR APPROACH
There were several facets to this project including the refurbishment of new offices and warehousing and the creation of a new, high technology training centre.
We provided extensive design and build services with all materials and equipment being installed to HTM and HBN compliance. The work required internal piling and the construction of a mezzanine floor.
KEY CHALLENGES
Dating from the 1970's, this refurbishment project neccessitated the removal and replacement of asbestos roofing. The use of any asbestos has been banned in the UK since 1999 and great care needs to be taken when dealing with this carcinogenic material. Following strict protocols and health and safety practice, this was removed from the building and disposed of.
